Unprovoked 'one punch' attacks are now subject to harsh penalties in Australia unless the perpetrator is a woman in which case she gets off with a small fine as usual.

Wasnt Madonna just a few days ago whining about double standards and supposed misogyny?

I guess she doesnt have a problem with double standards that work in her favor as a woman....

she committed a public sexual assault on a minor, and nobody cares...let's hear some more about Patriarchy and Male Privilege please.

The double standard isn't even a debate...a male performer doing this would have been arrested on the stage before the next song, but Madonna did it because she had 100% confidence nobody would care.

I have a funny feeling that when this young woman realizes she's sitting on a multi-million dollar lawsuit, she's suddenly going to realize she's got crippling PTSD from the assault.

Madonna did it because she had 100% confidence nobody would care.

Indeed. It would seem that Madonna was correct in assuming that she had a right to do it. She sexually assaulted a minor in public and Australian police have done nothing.

NB: Not all offences require a complaint from the victim. I believe this is an example where the state is expect to act even without a complaint.

She should so have talked to a lawyer before admitting to the media that she was fine with it /s

I watched the video, it was accident, it wasn't on purpose, and she a minor for a matter of months. It wasn't a sexual assault, you guys are starting to said like feminists where everything is sexual assault.

There was nothing remotely accidental about that, you don't really think anyone will believe that do you?

and she a minor for a matter of months.

That... just doesn't matter in the least.

Good to see articles like this. Although they always leave me bitter. A problem is only a problem when it affects women it seems.

Fuck the daily Mail, can't you find a decent source.

Well said. Plus, some stories are simple facts with no room for spin. Madonna admitted what happened. So what if the post happened to use the Mail in this case? The issue is about what would have happened had a male performer done this which is a double standard men's rights have pointed out for years. The Mail's reporting here has nothing to do with a common issue over feminist hypocrisy. I'm pretty sick of posters with agendas ignoring many important issues over stories simply because of a link to a media outlet that isn't ideal. To take time to read the post then reply but ONLY mention the media referenced as a complaint while ignoring many valid points raised is pretty dodgy and can often come across as trying to derail issues, a common approach by both white knights and feminists. Not implying that's the case here necessarily, but it can look a bit suspect.

I think you're all forgetting one key point. The girl she did it too couldn't be happier.

That happens often in other illegal situations as well. Domestic assault, rape, etc. Shame and fame do a lot to a person. "People are talking about me so it must be okay." or "I like [my husband/Madonna] so it must be okay."

Facts are facts and the fact is Madonna spanked and revealed the breast of a minor, which is likely illegal and definitely not good. And in public, which is arguably worse. I don't know Australia's age of consent nor their nudity laws but I'm guessing there is at least on violation in this situation. It's icky, and if it was a 57 year old man that did it, you can bet there would be repercussions swiftly.

I'm not necessarily of the belief that breasts should have to be covered, but obviously age of consent matters, and consent at all surely does (there was none, regardless of the girl's age). This is wrong from every way, whether or not the girl after the fact decides it's cool. Maybe if it was before Madonna started touching her it'd be different, but that;s not what happened.
