I oppose this idea for two reason.

women have always be in combat position especially in the Navy.
Women do no meet the same standards of men. There should one standard for combat units and only one standard if you can't meet that standard than you can't be in a combat unit: male or female. As guy the minium standard for push ups was 50 while the minium standard for push ups for women was 10. I fired the missiles to protect the ship, and had to trust females to plug hole in side of the ship with wood like I would with any guy. Doesn't matter if she can only do 10 push ups than. If 10 push ups is all need to stop the ocean from flooding a ship then that should be standard for everyone.

Damage Control on ship: if a ship takes a hit and there is a small hole in the ship, which rests mostly underwater, you first response is to pug it with anything even wood then hold that plug there till others can respond to fix the whole. This response might take hours so people will trade places with the person holding the plug. Women are part of Damage Control on ships they serve just like the guys.

Ah, so combat is basically any time you are doing one of these two and existing. I guess those guys stationed in embassies working on reports are heavily engaged in combat.

making that comparision and disrespecting not just their lives and all the lives of everyone who as died during combat at sea.

Be honest with yourself. Apart from a terrorist bombing or two, there hasn't been any actions, and those bombings certainly weren't combat. They were events. There wasn't a firefight between two forces.

Its a pretty thin argument to say that claiming that the navy is not part of combat, by virtue of being relatively safe from harm compared to people on the ground, is disrespecting all those who have died in a machine gun washtub.

Immediately claiming someone is disrespecting something is a nasty person's tactic. Its like calling someone a racist without any proof. You are a nasty person.
