That's what the midol or painkillers are for, you know...to relieve the pain so you can get back to your life/work. Also, not every woman has severe pain while on their period, yet I can guarantee you those that don't need to use those period leave days will use them all the time. I'm in a position where I get to see my work's absenteeism reports and guess what? People abuse the system, this will be no different so to say it will improve efficiency or productivity is ludicrous especially when you have a company that has more women than men and many of them will now be off at the same time when they are needed at the office.

By your logic they should have a policy at work whenever someone has a bad stomach ache to just take the day off too. Many companies need people to be there at certain times. Things need to get done by a deadline or customers need to be served, etc. so even if you consider that they can make up the time later, it might hurt companies that need a certain number of people available to work.

A non-profit organization in the UK just officially green-lit a “period policy” that actually allows women to take paid time off whenever they’re dealing with bloating, cramping and general ovarian unhappiness.

And here’s the most amazing part: It won’t count against their sick time.

Yep, all 31 employees (7 of which are male) at Coexist are on board with the new ladies-only initiative, which basically allows women to listen to their body’s natural cycle and skip work and curl up on the couch if their period pain is too great.

Did you even read the article? Its additional time off. Flex-time would be saying, they can come in later in the day if they wake up with cramps. This is ADDITIONAL TIME. Do you honestly think they will make up the time and come in on weekend? stay later?
