Aileen Carol Wuornos was an American serial killer who killed seven men in Florida. She claimed that her victims had either raped or attempted to rape her while she was working as a whore, and that all of the homicides were committed in self-defense. Today is her birthday.

Why even bother bringing up her violence? She was held responsible for her actions instead of just walking away on female privilege.

Not to defend a murderer, but prostitutes do face high rates of sexual violence. A buddy of mine worked as a court translator for a defendant who had raped a prostitute. Apparently rapists think prostitutes are unlikely to report it to the police, as prostitution is illegal and all.

Now, perhaps you could reduce the violence against sex workers by legalizing and regulating prostitution, but that is a discussion for another thread.
