I'm impressed that the author responded with advice to help the man as a person should with any other human being.

I think most people with a public image would be very quick to assume that a man can't be abused by his wife and challenge the asker's interpretation of the situation. (e.g. "are you sure HE'S being abused by HER? That couldn't possibly be the case, since men are predators and women are victims.")
