Does current mainstream and social media damage more significant accusations of sexual assault?

I think it does both depending on timing.

Think back to the Stuebenville case. It wasnt very remarkable on its own but thanks to mainstream and especially social media it became an extremely high profile case that everyone watched.

The abuse that happened in that case was not as severe the one you link but it was national news for a long while.

At the same time does Melissa Huckabee ring a bell? Back around 2009 or so a young girl was found dead and sexually assaulted but as far as I know no deeper explanation of the assult was given.

The police spent the first week or two of the case quite literally only looking for a male suspect. In the end Huckabee came forward and confesses.

Outside of mrm spaces I had a very hard time finding anything on it. Not as severe as the case you mention but also almost no media coverage.

Now take that case from a few weeks ago where the guy brushed past a woman on mass transit and was accused of sexual assault. That case blew up despite the media taking great care to not name the supposed victim. In the end it was discovered that the evidence was altered (the "assault" was caught on video, a video that was intentionally slowed down to make the contact look longer than it really was).

This case was everywhere.

I think there are cases where it assists and other cases where it hinders.

And for the record I have never heard about this case you link in this post until your mention of it.

Her accusation has got more attention than that because she's a celebrity.

Lack of media-coverage for alledged assaults doesn't mean justice won't be carried out. In fact imo it allows true justice to take place with more falsely accused being dragged through the mud by the media and having their lives ruined due to lack if anonymity

With the Kesha thing Despite the evidence of her lying under oath she has 100% support and he's all but considered guilty. Theres no "wait for evidence" or "innocent until proven guilty" hashtag campaigns and no public claims of support for Dr Luke despite them being just Allegations with no supporting evidence, so accusations of assaults when in the public eye no matter the details is accuser right, suspect wrong.

Edit: that case is shocking. It would be good to further show sexual assault is gender-blind. Wonder why that hasn't been picked up by the media for one of the "big media push" couple they promote each year"
