Unprovoked 'one punch' attacks are now subject to harsh penalties in Australia unless the perpetrator is a woman in which case she gets off with a small fine as usual.

Didn't you get the memo? Women can do anything a man can do, do it better and in heels (according to Obama). Of course the empirical evidence demonstrated by free markets shows otherwise.

I got tired of arguing with feminists on 2X about this. The study was from a single day of site monitoring and picks select parts of the overall study to suggest that women are better programmers. It's clear from reading any article about it that the researchers were looking for a particular outcome. It's more about media than actual scientific investigation. Basically, they wanted to say "women have it so much worse in computer science, but haha, we're better at programming." It's nothing more than clickbait and women seem to eat that stuff up. Take a minute to Google anything like "women are better drivers," "girls are smarter," or "women can manage money better" and you'll get similar articles where people carefully pick a few data points to "prove" their forgone conclusion and use that to make themselves feel better about their own insecurities.

The article summed everything up nicely:

So, let’s review. A non-peer-reviewed paper shows that women get more requests accepted than men. In one subgroup, unblinding gender gives women a bigger advantage; in another subgroup, unblinding gender gives men a bigger advantage. When gender is unblinded, both men and women do worse; it’s unclear if there are statistically significant differences in this regard. Only one of the study’s subgroups showed lower acceptance for women than men, and the size of the difference was 63% vs. 64%, which may or may not be statistically significant. This may or may not be related to the fact, demonstrated in the study, that women propose bigger and less-immediately-useful changes on average; no attempt was made to control for this. This tiny amount of discrimination against women seems to be mostly from other women, not from men.

The media uses this to conclude that “a vile male hive mind is running an assault mission against women in tech.”

I wonder when the BBC and other "journalists" will find out that women are on average taller than men.

"Awaiting peer review"

There's a reason were hearing about this now and not next month. The research methodology is laughable and the conclusion drawn isn't even what the article claims.

I can believe this because I can hardly understand half of them in the first place.

Didn't coding used to be mainly women's work anyway? Maybe they should look at what changed that.
