I think this argument has been around, but I'm starting to see it a lot more. Feminists are telling people to stop using the term "females" and start calling them "women". The logic is that females refers to genitalia while women does not.
Of course, their argument is idiotic. If you want to refer to female rape victims, it makes sense to say "female" because it includes women (adults), but also very young victims like 5 year-old girls. Just keep in mind that their argument is stemming from trying to be protective of trans-people who may not have had surgery but consider themselves women, and that will help you connect with them if you want to try and actually get through to them.
