"Well, my driver’s licence is very precious to me", well maybe then don't drink and drive you fucking cunt.

[–]chonnes 20 points21 points22 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The bitch is 17: I have no doubt her parents aren't anything to be proud of either.

[–]GodotIsWaiting4U 36 points37 points38 points 11 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

She's out on bail for now.

At her trial date -- if she makes it -- I hope she's going to spout the most retarded entitled rich girl shit right there on the stand and earn a strong guilty verdict.

[–]pmckizzle 20 points21 points22 points 11 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

she'll get off on affluenza

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Where from the article can you infer that she's rich or privileged in any way? She was 17, driving a Cavalier, texting on a Blackberry, and drinking rum at a house party.

Hmm.... You're right. Now that I think about it there really is an untapped market there.
What if someone offered a service where they would loan money to people who wanted to pay bail... Let's say this someone offered this theoretical service and would hand out loans for a 10% fee of the total bail amount...

[–]Gstreetshit 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They already have those.

Wait, you're being sarcastic aren't you?

[–]CactusMasterRace 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

10% of that bail amount should be a lot for "allegedly" killing two people.

[–]OhMy8008 -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Some people might say this type of shit is what makes America great

[–]Factushima 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is in Canada.

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points-1 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well that's circular logic if I ever heard it. What do you know the Manitoba Youth Justice system and their bail standards?

[–]JaundiceHour 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So I can use my "very precious" driver's license to run her over? Thanks.

[–]rarely-sarcastic 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She won't. Crocodile tears will be all she needs.

[–]sheepsix 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I agree with your sentiments but do you really think her family is rich based on the story, or do you have some other knowledge not written here?

The accident was in 2010 and Chevrolet stopped making the Cavalier in 2005. So she was driving an entry level car that was at least 5 years old. Pretty sad if her family is indeed rich.

[–]bommeraang 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think the guy is mixing up spoiled little sh*t and rich.

[–]Beautiful_Girlie_Bob -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I'm well over 50 and have never ever once owned a car that was as recently built as 5 years ago. It's not that I'm poor, it's just that some of us refuse to go into debt for 5-10 years for a car when I can buy a clunker for pocket money and drive it into the ground.

[–]sheepsix -3 points-2 points-1 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

How very wonderful for you. Your particular viewpoint on debt really has no relevance to what we are talking about.

[–]Beautiful_Girlie_Bob 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I believe it's pertinent in that we were talking about how what car you drive is a direct reflection of your socioeconomic status. I am pointing out that middle-class people drive older cars lots of the time, and that older cars are not indicative of being working-class or poor.

Also, eat shit with that sarcastic passive-aggression. "How very wonderful for you" my ass, you jagoff.

[–]sheepsix -3 points-2 points-1 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No it's not pertinent because if her family were rich and she was driving the car she was it's unlikely she would suffer from "affluenza", which IS what we were talking about.

The reason I was sarcastic is because instead of posting about the actual discussion, you chose to get on some sort of soap box about how you clearly feel superior as "some of us refuse to go into debt...: You made an attempt to make the discussion about yourself and in this regard no one cares.

P.S. You may notice that I haven't resorted to using expletives to insult you. You might try this in the future.

P.P.S. What exactly is a "jagoff"?

[–]Beautiful_Girlie_Bob0 points 11 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Who the fuck cares if you "use expletives?" At least that would be honesty, not passive-aggressive snottiness. Methinks your politesse is just a veneer over the usual gaping chasm of emptiness where the mind would go on a fully formed human being.

The affluenza sub-thread is not the one you are currently posting in. You're in the sub-thread where someone asked "can her parents really be rich if she was driving a 5 year old car?" And I pointed out that a 5 year old car was not exactly a sign of poverty.

For a high school kid, a car only 5 years old is pretty well indicative that the parents of this girl were upper-middle-class. They likely buy a brand new car at least every 5 years. 5 year loans have high interest rates and are very expensive, adding thousands to the cost of the car. You'd know these things if you were an actual working adult who pays his own bills.

[–]sheepsix 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're just embarrassing.

You're in the sub-thread where someone asked "can her....

Not someone, ME. We don't actually know from the story that the car is 5 years old. I made it pretty clear that the newest the car could be is 5 years old. Being a Cavalier it could be 28 years old. Clearly you're unable to follow along. Your expletives, and now your silly, not to mention misplaced, insult regarding age just makes you look like a child, even if you are well over 50. You are just all over the map with your comments. Starting with stating your disdain for debt and now speculating that her parents likely buy a brand new car at least every 5 years and 5 year loans have high interest rates etc. etc. Yes, it's obvious you don't like going into debt because you don't know how loans and interest work. The last car I purchased (my twelfth including two minivans which I owned before my children moved out) was purchased at zero percent interest. The one before that at 1.9%. In my experience, (see how I don't generalize and claim that everyone shares my position or opinion) only those that cannot manage their credit pay high interest loans and those that might be considered upper class are not likely taking a 5 year loan on an economy class car. This is the last I'm going to comment here, feel free to have the last word. You strike me as someone who will always want the last word anyway so this would just go on forever and I've used all my crayons explaining this to you.

[–]teh_spazz 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

She plead guilty...did you read the article?

[–]GodotIsWaiting4U 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh. I must have missed that bit.

Well -- GOOD.

[–]431854682 13 points14 points15 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Wow, I didn't realize there was a legal limit for underage drinking.

[–]dtrmp4 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

In the US it's something like .02 to avoid false positives. They might've been referring to the "legal limit" in this article simply as .08. Underage drinking isn't legal.

[–]JaundiceHour 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Being drunk in Canada is not a crime; consuming alcohol is not a crime. For instance it is perfectly legal for a kid to drink if their parents are aware of it and allow it in a private residence.

Edit: It is illegal for a parent to give their child booze to drink outside of their direct watch and such; and its also against the law to buy for minors

[–]rarely-sarcastic 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Depends on the state. Some of them still have zero tolerance.

I guess I don't consider a drink for religious/medical/government purposes as "drinking".

But that article is interesting. Here in Michigan, it's only allowed for the 3 reasons I listed above, but in Maine, it's only allowed on private property with parental consent.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Provinces are different with their alcohol limits for driving at different ages/ license classes.

In Ontario the legal drinking age is 19, but no driver under 22 is allowed any alcohol. No driver with learner's licenses can have any alcohol either, at any age.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Really the texting seems like the more egregious driving offense here: her alcohol level was just around the legal limit.

[–]barleyf 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

she said she drank a half a bottle of rum

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

And the blood/breathalyzer tests suggested her alcohol level was between .07 and .12 alcohol levels when she drove.

Either she was exaggerating or her bottle was just a mickey (half a mickey ~ 4 standard drinks)

[–]barleyf 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

wtf is mickey

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

~13 oz, 375 ml, half a fifth, a pint...
