Pretty much that entire article would have held true if they had just taken out the word female. We should reevaluate the way we view all low level offenders, but no, he turns it into women are special dainty little things who need special privilege.

This is a direct result of feminist action.

The largest feminist campaign group in the UK, The Fawcett Society, put together "the women's justice task force" that put forward the case that all women's prison should close.

They lobbied government, and the matter was taken seriously enough by UK politicians that it was debated in the parliamentary select committee. The idea was (thankfully) thrown out by conservative politicians, however the more left wing Scottish Parliament took the ideas on board, and decided to close their women's prisons.

And so here we are.

IIRC this isn't the first time someone 'notable' suggested this. I believe it was a woman working for the ~~Huffington Post~~ Daily Mail who wrote an article arguing for the very same thing.

I fear so much for the thousands of young boys who are abused by women. There is basicaly no justice offered to them, and now they want to get rid of womens prisons. Such a joke.

I would be willing to see what effect this has on society. I always have an open mind about things and they could be on to something. Particularly, the most successful programs may end up being the basis to not only help female offenders, but youths and everyone with substance abuse and violence issues. I'm not saying I wholeheartedly agree, but offender rehabilitation is an important part construct, so maybe women offenders should be entitled to different treatment. If it doesn't work then fuck 'em and lock them up. If it does then the benefit of having people getting the treatment they need will be great for Scotland.

Seriously though, fuck this part in particular —

No, it's not the number of them that matters, it's their effectiveness, it's like saying we shouldn't worry about criminals, thieves, rapists, terrorists, etc because they're "only a minority".

When such groups gather and start affecting the laws of the land by which we ALL live, it doesn't matter that it was done by "only a few" when it affects us ALL.

There are only a few politicians compared to the rest of the population, do you think you should ignore their polices when you vote ?

Although it is true that more men are incarcerated than women and that men have just as much of a chance of their problems stemming from an addressable mental condition, there's no reason to give men the benefit of the doubt, so lock them up, but women, well, they might have addressable mental conditions, so lets work on that instead with them, but not men, because men only have addressable mental conditions.
