Im putting a link to the origional here

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3378676/Police-accused-sexism-new-anti-domestic-violence-campaign-refers-male-attackers.html

in case others want to reward the DM for covering it.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

If you look at the DM's headlines from the Day before there is tad of hypocrisy here:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3376846/Five-years-jail-men-emotionally-bully-wives-New-law-target-bullies-control-partners-coercive-controlling-behaviour.html

They do not mention in the headline that it applies to women as well

[–]Sasha_ 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I really don't know why they assume that if they bring in a law criminalising 'emotional abuse', it will be mostly men up before the courts, as anyone with any experience of life knows that it's mostly women and girls who threaten, insult and verbally abuse.

All a ex-husband/alienated-father will have to do is record his ex- telling him he can't see the kids and - bam - that's a clear case of 'emotional abuse'.

And, let's be honest, it's women who behave like this, not men.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Because we've seen how other domestic violence issues, which also are often instigated by women (most physical abusers of children are women, for instance), and those charges are still mostly laid on men.

This will be no different. The cops will always give women a pass, and so will the courts.

Sadly, I suspect you're right.

[+]chavelah -8 points-7 points-6 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Go work in family court for a month and tell me if you still think emotional abuse is a woman's game. Just as we've historically downplayed female violence in the home, our cultural perception of men as the good-natured bumblers in the household provides a lot of plausible deniability for male abusers who like to use their words rather than their fists.

[–]Sasha_ 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If I worked in a family-court anywhere in the world for a month, what I'd see is one father after another living on the breadline, working himself to death to pay for his ex-wife's home that she's now sharing with her fuck-buddy, under the threat of imprisonment or penury. Women don't need to be 'violent' against their ex-partners, they can usually talk some idiot into doing the violence for them, or manipulate the police and legal-system into doing the violence for them.

I've downvoted this submission and made a new post of the original. It's worth rewarding good articles with traffic. Please don't use archives for decent journalism otherwise the newspaper will go out of business.

The pieces are by different authors, lets support the honest one with traffic and therefore possible ad revenue.

These people hate the daily mail and love the guardian, despite the fact that the guardian is the most anti-male rag on the planet.

I don't understand why this is the priority to be honest. The far bigger crime is the amount of men being driven to suicide because of family law courts and cheating spouses and their lack of support when things go bad. Nobody says a word about this yet so many men are literally killing themselves, is that not domestic abuse? Some time ago I separated with my ex after she suddenly decided that 'love moves on'. This was after I paid 2 years of rent, $7000 for her Visa, moved away from my friends so she could be closer to work, bought pets, filled the house with furniture and left a position that I loved for one that I hated so we could afford our expenses. I don't expect her to stay but do I get a refund for this? Absolutely not. How about we provide some rights for people who are given fake promises so they can get some of their money returned after their SO changes their mind?

I would much rather have a bossy spouse that says I can't have friends than to have to go through this again. It's the only time I've ever understood suicide as being a viable option as before I used to spend my time wondering what's wrong with people who commit suicide? Now I understand it completely. I'm just lucky that I had such excellent friends at that time who would come stay with me to make sure I was okay. The government doesn't exist for men in these situations which is why I have abandoned it.

In Spain this is the standard.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Spain also spent 50 years as a fascist dictatorship and never once did anything about it.

I have no respect for Spain.
