Tldr: men are commiting suicide at higher rates, so let's find ways to blame them"

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

They have to... think about it:

Middle age man commits suicide and insurance probably doesn't pay out because of it. He hasn't fully invested in his (wife's) retirement plan. The house and car payments aren't going to be made anymore.

Poor poor poor lady (victim) now has nothing to retire (party) or live off of.

Besides it being a selfish thing to do that causes a lot of pain to everyone... I get that. It really is a big financial "fuck you" to the spouse.

If I was married I'd invest everything in pumpkins. Let her know that they'll peak right around Oct.

[–]AloysiusC 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have absolutely no time for the claim that suicide is some kind of act of selfishness. It's easy to judge from a distance. It's easy to think that just because you have coped with problems you consider difficult, therefore you understand the situation of others and can judge over them.

Is it true that like-insurance doesn't pay out for suicide?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It may or may not. It depends on the policy and the clauses in it. Same as it may or may not pay if you are killed while committing a crime. It was one of the reasons that Suicide by Cop was so popular at one point.

If I remember right i had one (many years ago) that said it wouldn't pay if it was due to an act of terrorism.

Best I did was google and it says (US rules):

"Usually, this clause states that no death benefit will be paid if the insured commits suicide within two years of taking out a policy. Whenever an insured person replaces an existing life insurance policy with a new one, the time clock for the suicide clause is set back to zero and starts over again.Aug 15, 2014"

If you think about it... Someone could take out a million dollar life insurance policy today.... wait 2.5 years... then off themselves.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Absolutely, insurance doesn't pay out for suicide. Otherwise it's

"Hi, I want a policy."

(two months later, having paid $500)

BLAM

(wife gets $1,000,000)

[–]Arby01 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That is a more complicated question than yes/no.

It depends on the policy, but many policies do pay out for suicide however there is usually a minimum time period you have to hold the policy before you are eligible.

Ridiculous drivel. I'm so sick of the statement 'feminism isn't the enemy it will solve all the problems!'. Ok, try being insanely open with girls you're trying to pursue and acting less like 'a man' as defined by traditional masculinity and see how much success you have. They say that shit but it's not attractive to most women and you only need to step outside to realize it

[–]MaestroLogical 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We've conditioned 2 generations of boys to be less masculine but we forgot to condition the girls to find that attractive. This is the PRIMARY reason for so much strife when it comes to dating for millennials. Girls were conditioned (by media and peers) to find the marlboro man attractive while simultaneously demanding that boys not be anything like that. Yet they want to ask "Where have all the men gone?" when they actually get what they asked for. We conditioned boys to find aggressive independent girls attractive, we just missed a giant piece of the puzzle along the way.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Women, and feminists in particular, have been saying for decades that they want men to be more open with their feelings and want men to abandon masculine ideas of rugged individualism

Yeah..they have been SAYING that. Doesn't mean they are right. Why can't people accept that men generally do not want to share their feelings? Why is it not acceptable for a man to want to make his way in the world anymore? A man who is not in control of his destiny is no man at all.

[–]ThePigmanAgain -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

A man who is not in control of his destiny is no man at all.

LOL

All those men slaughtered in Paris weren't men, right? Unless, of course, they were in control of their destinies and decided to be shot to death at an early age!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yes, shit happens you can't control. But to be a man is to be in charge of one's life. To make one's way in the world. The world is a nasty, evil place. Rugged individualism exists for a reason. In a world where everyone is trying to screw you over, you need to watch out for yourself. All this "express your feelings," "validate my feelings," "work collaboratively" is a bunch of PC feminist bull-shit.

A man works hard, provides for his own and his family, and takes what he wants (lawfully), others be damned.

[–]ThePigmanAgain 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

All this "express your feelings,"... "work collaboratively" is a bunch of PC feminist bull-shit.

Yeah! Damn right! It's much better to hold your feelings inside and develop an ulcer instead! And team work is bullshit too! It's not as if the building you are sitting in was made by men working collaboratively, or anything!

[–]Arby01 -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah! Damn right! It's much better to hold your feelings inside and develop an ulcer instead!

well, the statistics would make it seem like the alternative is being expressive and committing suicide.

[–]ThePigmanAgain 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Really? There's a correlation between expressing one's feelings and committing suicide? I would be surprised if it were not the other way around.

[–]socialinjusticewar 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Jesus. TLDR: men are committing suicide more often but the world is better off without them.

I think it's quite possibly even worse than that:

White middle aged men kill themselves at very high rates; but then again, 98% of CEOs are white males so what are they complaining about?

Also the Feminist solution to losing their jobs since the 2008 crisis is to give the jobs they don't have to women (what!??)

Forced to face challenging economic conditions as a result of the 2008 economic meltdown, many felt there was no alternative but to end their lives [...] While they may be killing themselves at record numbers, it’s hard to reconcile this with the idea that they are somehow unfairly favoured in the workplace, since men –and largely white men – hold 95.6 per cent of all chief executive officer roles at S&P 500 companies.

Feminism isn’t to blame for this issue. In fact, it may be part of the solution [...] Men ... need to ... addres[s] their own assumptions that they are more entitled to positions or promotions than their female peers.

Ah yes, the alpha fallacy strikes again.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Whenever I hear someone say or write "But most of the CEOs of Fortune 500 companies and most legislators are men" I think of it like this.

Lets say the US government were to make a law today that by noon tomorrow ALL CEOs of F-500 companies and all members of the congress and senate must be female. Exactly how many women would this effect, perhaps a 1000 and WHO would those women be, Rich or upper class white women. Now you understand why feminism is doing what it is doing.
