Feminism isn’t to blame for this issue. In fact, it may be part of the solution.

“Women, and feminists in particular, have been saying for decades that they want men to be more open with their feelings and want men to abandon masculine ideas of rugged individualism, so it makes no sense for women to somehow be blamed when men fail to seek help

Just stop being a man and you'll be fine.

“Women, and feminists in particular, have been saying for decades that they want men to be more open with their feelings and want men to abandon masculine ideas of rugged individualism

Norah Vincent, who tried to live as a man, claimed afterwards that women don't have the slightest fucking clue what men's lives are like. The constant lament that "men need to talk about their feelingz more!" is proof positive that she was correct.

When women talk about their feelings, society comes running. Females don't appear to realize that males have the exact opposite experience. When we "talk about our feelings," especially to women, it only makes matters worse.

From an article on the subject:

"Most women pledge allegiance to this idea that women can explore their emotions, break down, fall apart—and it's healthy," Brown said. "But guys are not allowed to fall apart." Ironically, she explained, men are often pressured to open up and talk about their feelings, and they are criticized for being emotionally walled-off; but if they get too real, they are met with revulsion. She recalled the first time she realized that she had been complicit in the shaming: "Holy Shit!" she said. "I am the patriarchy!"

http://www.theatlantic.com/sexes/archive/2013/04/messages-of-shame-are-organized-around-gender/275322/

When women claim to have a problem, it's up to "society" to fix it. When men have a problem, it's up to men themselves to fix it. That's the recurring theme in all of these articles on male suicide. Men are committing suicide because they're not doing X good enough; they need to work even harder. God forbid we ask women to do anything at all in support of the people who keep their fucking lights on at night.

If feminists actually believed that male suicide could be diminished by "men talking about their feelings" they would be directing these articles at women. But no. They take this tragedy and use it as yet another opportunity to blame men.

The claim that feminism has nothing whatsoever to do with the current epidemic of male suicide is idiotic on its face. Are you telling me that turning gender roles upside down, blaming men for all of society's problems, changing the education system so that it favours females, privileging women through "affirmative action," changing the law so that men can't see their kids etc etc has had no effect whatsoever on the mental health and well-being of men? Fuck off.

It's really impressive to read. How does one miss that particular forest? Fuckin trees everywhere.

It's especially hilarious when feminists claim men need to "open up" then proceed to drink from "male tears" jugs and call us whiny man-children when we do so, often on the same fucking day! Insanity. Absolute insanity.

Yeah, just voice how you feel and that will solve everything. Except for anger. Anger is something men should never express because it scares women and makes them feel bad.

No, they absolutely have not.

They might say these things in journal articles, but I never met a girl who wanted a crying, simpering wimp on her arm. "What do you call guys under 5'11"? FRIENDS... LOL" Nor do they want men to earn any less, because they want those fat alimony checks coming and a NICE BIG HOUSE they can take away from him when they decide to fuck Chad Thundercock.

If they really wanted men to be open with their feelings they wouldn't mock them with #male_tears, if they wanted men to be less individual and so forth they'd marry down.

Talk is fucking cheap. Put your money where your mouth is.

It always pisses me off, this particular line of thought. if we renounce our manhood everything will magically be better, quotas/positive discrimination won't be needed and all mens issues will magically disappear - sure feminism can't possibly be to blame for anything while feminists are sat there drinking from their cups of male tears!

They think men would act like women would in that situation and rig things in favor of their own gender and to detriment of the other gender.

[–]DevilishRogue 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Indeed. Women assume that men adopt their same in-group bias against men, but men actually have an out-group bias towards women, so men experience a double whammy.

"Black men are criminals, because look at how many of them are in jail and... oh wait, that's different right, because REASONS."

(I don't believe black people are criminals, I'm pointing out the same logical fallacy that the PC Crowd would pre-emptively spot and call out.)

Especially given that at every. other. level of management, there is no such trend. This is about as Apex as an apex fallacy can get.

While they may be killing themselves at record numbers, it’s hard to reconcile this with the idea that they are somehow unfairly favoured in the workplace, since men –and largely white men – hold 95.6 per cent of all chief executive officer roles at S&P 500 companies.

It’s also hard to draw attention to the plight of middle-class white males without falling into the open arms of the men’s rights movement, a “manosphere” populated by misogynists who blame women and feminism for all of men’s woes. Let’s be clear: Feminism isn’t to blame for this issue. In fact, it may be part of the solution.

Heh. Comments are open. Time to educate some feminists.

I read this article with hope (I know... I'm an optimist who never learns his goddamn lesson). But the article really boils down to this:

tl;dr - men commit suicide at epidemic levels, and it's noone's fault but their own.

One wonders if Leah Eichler's next articles will be headlined "Black men disproportionately killed by police: their own damn fault" or "Gender earnings gap still exists, and you're to blame, ladies" or "Gays face discrimination in many parts of the country/world... sucks to be you, queers!" ... I doubt it
