Simple statistics refute these silly claims rather easily.

Rape is more common outside of college.

Rape is more common in urban city areas which are not college towns, than college towns which are not urban city areas. For instance, Berkeley versus Oakland right next door.

Rape has been in consistent decline since the 70's.

In order to think there is a modern campus rape epidemic, you must ALSO think there is a modern not-college SUPER rape epidemic, and that the 70's-80's was a plague of rape.

By pointing these things out, you force one of three scenarios. One, they have to prove rape isn't as bad off of campus. They can't, because they've done no research on the issue and if they did would find that they are wrong. Two, they have to say there actually is a super-epidemic off-campus, and in the 70s. Now they look like a crazy person, and they are also no longer able to defend actions on campus without promoting those actions off campus first. Or three, they have to admit their college stats are ridiculous and wrong, and that there is no crisis at all.

This approach is better than outright telling some delusion rape-panic enthusiast that rape culture isn't a thing. If you do that, you're only confronting them on territory they've been thoroughly indoctrinated in, and they'll just shout their statistics at your statistics until nobody wins, even if their statistics are wrong.

Do you have sources for that stuff? I would love to have those on hand.

Im genuinely sorry, i meant /r/mrref

It really is an excellent source of data. Again, my apologies.

That's OK, I find it any way with the search function :)

You're gonna have to do a tiny bit of googling, I'm on my phone.

The statistics for these:

Rape is more common outside of college.

.

Rape has been in consistent decline since the 70's.

Are found easily by googling, studies were done on the former and general crime statistics prove the latter.

Rape is more common in urban city areas which are not college towns, than college towns which are not urban city areas. For instance, Berkeley versus Oakland right next door.

Is based specifically off of the research I did on crime statistics in the Berkeley / Oakland area, to shush a feminist complaining that Berkeley was some kind of rapepocalypse center. Again, you can google crime statistics that show crime rates per capita are higher in urban areas across the board, dramatically, regardless of whether or not it's a prominent college area.

Information in those departments alone is enough to force the ultimatum, of "Rape Crisis in College = False, or Rape Crisis Everywhere Else = Apocalyptic", both of which end the debate in your favor via concession or absurdity.

There is an "epidemic" that colleges are "covering up?" So, then why are there so few cases and what cases there are always result in the male student being expelled with little to no hearing, then he is later exonerated due to evidence that proves he wasn't guilty, but has to take it to trial to get to that point because the college refuses to look at the evidence that might clear them.

They are so scared of being accused of "covering it up" that they pronounce anyone guilty regardless of the amount of evidence proving their innocence.

She's so talented and it breaks my heart when she does things like this.

She also claimed there is an epidemic of music producers raping female artists, especially young/underage ones. She claims it happened to her and she wrote a song about it.

But when you actually piece together the stuff she's admitted, it doesn't sound like rape.

She was 19, but she likes to bring up underage girls when she talks about it, because that would clearly be rape.

She claims she was "manipulated". Manipulation is not necessarily rape, but when pressed for details she describes receiving compliments and then a pass being made.

She seems to have regrets about it, because he was so much older than her, and maybe he didn't have as much influence in the industry as she thought he did, but again...that doesn't make it rape.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3APaEsYwD8w (one relevant part there might be more: 28:40)

BTW, she makes it really, really obvious who she is accusing, but she won't say it explicitly for legal reasons.

I am so sick of Gaga and her shit, i just wish she would drop dead. How quickly she went from cool to rabid. Just imagine what she will be like when she's forty!

Lets not make a mountain out of a molehill here. Lets not overreact. Few people seem to be particularly excited or driven by this video.

Look at the overall reactions so far: https://np.reddit.com/r/AmericanHorrorStory/duplicates/3lehg0/abit_out_of_topic_lady_gaga_released_a_new_music/

https://np.reddit.com/r/TwoXChromosomes/comments/3lef19/lady_gagas_new_music_video_aims_to_shed_light_on/

So far the whole thing has about 300 votes and 100 comments in total. Small potatoes. Preaching to the 'college rape' hysterical quire who encouraged this in the first place.

It might grow more, but so far how about we all stop overreacting?

[–]ThePigmanAgain 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, you're right. Who the hell is going to pay any attention to a music video by some obscure nobody like Gaga?

Sometimes productions flop.

It already has 2 million views on YouTube -- and that's on Vevo alone. Tell me again how it's not something we should worry about.

"Do you know how easy it is to get a couple million video views?"

Careful, you are starting to blither.

Panic? What panic?

[–]prybarn 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

It is the featured video.

You go to Youtube and that is the first thing you will see. That everyone is seeing.

[–]Lurker_IV -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

And we will see if this featured video on youtube creates the same social uproar that all the previous featured videos created.

You remember of any of those?

[–]prybarn 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You're right. I'm sorry.

I'm sure this video will do nothing to propagate the false statistics and make people believe there is an epidemic, especially young, naive people who think it is a good idea to create affirmative consent standards and kick men out of college with no evidence.

I'm sure there won't be any people like that out of the millions that have watched it in the past few days.

Almost 8 millions views.

How many does it have to get before you won't say "do you know how easy it is to get..."?
