This is my first post here and I'm not an awesome writer so feel free to make corrections and help provide citations where needed:

Anyone who doesn't just plain hate men and boys or who hasn't decided to press their hands to their ears and sing "naa nana naa" would know by now that the school system is literally destroying the next generation of men in America. American schools have basically created a system where low stakes, low pressure assessment of a long period of time is favored; any form of movement is highly discouraged for almost the entire day, and a buoyant, boyish disposition is always punished...All this, along with a host of other factors you can easily find with a quick google search, stack the system against boys and favor their sisters. Teachers in schools in the UK are actually BIASED against boys. A study on a UK high school revealed that boys consistently scored significantly higher when tests were written anonymously!

I digress...the maint here is that this overly structured approach which tends to favor girls and encourages and rewards suppliance, "good behavior' (i.e. sitting still and quiet for hours on end), actually discourages exactly the (masculine) qualities and dispositions that have allowed men to become CEOs, billionaires, tech-startup stars and so on. Take a look the IT/tech bubble. It came right around a time when girls and young women were surging dramatically in academic institutions..leaving the boys in their wake. However girls pretty much entirely missed out on the tech revolution (and are now trying to muscle their way in through quotas) The reason for this is that whiles girls where diligently organizing, working hard in the classroom, and spending their time at home doing homework and doing assigned readings, something they were always rewarded for, boys (who studies show, spend almost much less time doing homework) were out experimenting with new technologies, tinkering, taking apart, and eventually creating cool things.

In a broader sense, schools encourage a suppliant and risk-averse behavior in girls which is partly responsible for why they are largely absent in the lists of highly successful entrepreneurs. I recently saw a woman in tech on TV(I think it was Sheryl Sandberg) cite a study shoeing that in elementary school girls were far more interested in being sen as "good girls" and receiving compliments from teachers than boys. She claimed it was as a result of social conditioning which tells girls they should always seek approval from superiors, instead of being self assured. what she didn't realize is that girls wanted to be well-behaved and good because they were being vastly rewarded for it, and not because their parents lock them in a room for 2 hours every Sunday evening for a "social conditioning" session.

As a college student, I have recently started to learn computer programming, just as a useful skill to have, and at first I walked into lectures thinking, "okay, the professor is going to teach me how to code, awesome!". It took me a couple of weeks to realize thats not how programming works. A teacher can only teach you the tools you need teach you the mechanics of the language and show you examples. The way to become a good programmer is to experiment, read stuff on the internet, try to write programs you know you can't write, and basically hustle, and learn along the way.

This is something a lot of the guys in my class were good at. We had discussion sections and there were several times where one of the guys would mention some exotic method that hadn't been taught, and the girls (3 in a class of about 20) would always be asking "when did we learn that" or have a confused look on their face. In summary, paying attention in class, taking notes and doing assignments will get you a B or at most a B+ in CS. On the other hand, I took another CS class just last semester and actually got an A, after attending all of about 5 lectures (Im not even exaggerating) because I self taught from a bunch of textbooks, youtube and stack websites. Basically the outside of the classroom, exploratory try and error kind of learning that makes good programmers is something that the few female CS students I've come into contact with seem to lack, because they were always rewarded for doing the exact opposite, got good grades, and got into college.

In conclusion, schools' prioritization of the natural strengths of girls obviously ignores and undermines those of boys, although this hurts boys in schools, and makes them less likely to become productive embers of society, it also fails to push girls out of their comfort zones and teach them useful skills which don't come naturally to them. It will therefore be in the inters tot both girls AND boys if schools, especially kindergarten and elementary schools..got the much needed reform they so desperately lack
