I see a lot on here about how a woman can write any man's name on a birth certificate and that man will be held liable for the child (or financially supporting that child). Is this a state-specific issue? Or is this an issue where we have one singular example and are declaring it a nationwide problem?

Also, I see a lot on here about how DNA/Paternity testing should be made mandatory. While I agree, I have to wonder why a man who is named the father wouldn't immediately take the child for the test. Is the assumption that the father has literally no access/visitation, and thus cannot get the child tested on his own?
