I find it kind of pathetic that the two concrete examples given of how paternity fraud is damaging consist of: 1. woman cannot get true father's medical history. 2. woman cannot inherit wealth from real father.

How frequent is paternity fraud? Is it a frequent occurance? Not saying that frequency should have any bearing on how seriously it is taken but I genuinely don't know how frequently it pops up

Generally considered to be 3-8%. See wikipedia for more detail.

Paternity fraud:

Paternity fraud occurs when a mother names a man to be the biological father of a child, when she knows or suspects that he is not the biological father. Paternity fraud is a criminal offence in the UK and certain states of the US. [citation needed] A mother is permitted to not state the name of the biological father if she does not know it. Paternity fraud is a form of misattributed paternity. The term entered into common use in the late 1990s. It has been given significant coverage by US activists and authors Tom Leykis, Glenn Sacks and Wendy McElroy.

How frequent is paternity fraud?

Hard to nail down. Its difficult to tell the difference between wishful thinking "he's probably father" and active fraud.

How frequent is paternity fraud?

Mom's Little Secret

"Some peg the range at 5 to 10 per cent; others, such as Jeanette Papp of the University of California at Los Angeles, feel that 15 per cent is reasonable for the Western world, even if there is no hard evidence. "It's hard to do studies on these things for ethical reasons," says Dr. Papp, director of genotyping and sequencing in UCLA's department of human genetics. "I mean, how do you tell people what you're really looking for?"

A British survey conducted between 1988 and 1996 by Robin Baker, a former professor at the University of Manchester, confirmed the 10-per-cent figure. That seems high to skeptics such as Dalhousie University geneticist Paul Neumann, although even he admitted that "my colleague, who's a woman, tells me women have no trouble believing it. . . . It's the men who can't."

Bernard Dickens, a specialist in health law and policy at the University of Toronto, said that in another British example, the non-paternity rate was three times that.

In the early 1970s, a schoolteacher in southern England assigned a class science project in which his students were to find out the blood types of their parents. The students were then to use this information to deduce their own blood types (because a gene from each parent determines your blood type, in most instances only a certain number of combinations are possible). Instead, 30 per cent of the students discovered their dads were not their biologically fathers."

"my colleague, who's a woman, tells me women have no trouble believing it. . . . It's the men who can't."

This is the crux of the matter right here. You know, the more I see how my fellow men refuse to acknowledge the truth about women, the more I understand why women treat men with contempt.

if the man has no reason to suspect the child isn't his i guess we'll never know, eh? i read somewhere that before the modern era, as much as 1 in 5 children didn't belong to their purported father. though i can't find the study at this time so don't quote me on that

This is a link to a rough U.S. estimate I tabulated with sources. The only remaining calculation would be to separate out the married and unmarried men from the figures as married men pay far more in support given presumptive parent laws.

This could be done for every country of course with the same model to get a very conservative estimate. There is a lot of money in play and my gut says that's why they refuse to deal with it. After all, who will pay for these kids if the men are let off the financial hook? The mother's? The state? The real father if they can find him?

About WAPF

Paternity Fraud has devastating effects (not only on men) but the women in their lives; their spouses, girlfriends, mothers, aunts, grandmothers, relatives, and especially on children. Women who were lied to about who their biological fathers is --- are also paternity fraud victims. People tend to think of "paternity fraud" as just a men's issue but our members are both "women" and "men" negatively affected by this issue.

It's pretty clear they only care about how PF affects females.
