So yeah, i've been reading here for a while, and while I used to be a feminist as that is the current dominant voice in most discourse that takes place in educational institutions, I no longer believe that western women as a class are oppressed, and that men have all this privilege.

What I would appreciate with this thread is to drop our opinions for a moment and try to understand why women feel they are so oppressed. What are the exact ways in which society oppresses women? I can't see them, apart from possibly objectification, and a lack of access to abortions in certain states/ ireland. But I wouldn't say those things mean women are oppressed, they still have the freedom to choose their path in life, and outnumber men in higher education, and outperform men in all levels of education. So yeah, how exactly are women oppressed? What is the evidence for this? I don't want this to turn into a circlejerk about how they're not oppressed. I don't believe either gender is 'oppressed' nowadays, and neither gender needs liberation. Both genders need to seek equal treatment in different walks of life.

However, when feminists and women keep going on about the oppression of women, it just seems like a dogma to me, and i'd like to know what the factual basis behind their argument is.

I will be asking the same question in /r/feminism, worded differently and without my opinion as it will probably just get downvoted and they may not actually answer my question.

So yeah, if anyone could tell me the basis for the feminist argument that modern women are still oppressed in western society, that would be great. I'm dying to understand why they think this.

Edit: Asked the same question, got banned with no reply.
