Mad Max: Fury Road, Feminism and Disinformation

Fury Road was pretty clearly positioned to be just like WALL-E: represent both sides, so that there will be a complex clashing or mixing of interests. Does anyone remember that? In 2008, since an election was on, both political sides claimed that WALL-E championed their ethos.

Really, Fury Road represented some major points from men's interest agendas. Nux is effectively the main character, and plays out the concepts of both the gendered empathy gap and male disposability. Someone could pretty easily write a whole article/paper about how those issues are represented and central to the film.

I really do not want to give away any spoilers from the movie but what really rubbed me the wrong way (don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the movie) was how the main "villain" was portrayed.

Okay spoilers abound:

Everything about the main villain was from word of mouth. He's evil, he's disgusting, he's oppressive he is this and that and just a general evil man! He's evil! He has a brothel of beautiful women who are very well taken care of and dressed in the finest silks and shows no signs of being abused!

That's what I do not understand. The "bad guy" in this movie showed NO tyrannical or oppressive traits. None. I mean if anything he's a feminists wet dream by creating a race of men who want nothing more but to die trying to protect a few fair maidens.

Saw the movie, it was entertaining. Not fantastic, but what I tried to keep in mind is it was made to make money so yes it panders too stupid peyote in very stupid ways. It's a fucking movie, I really wouldn't put that much energy into thinking about a fantasy and what it all means.
