My opinion is that yes, women are being horrendously mistreated in Taliban-controlled areas, and that feminists would do a lot better to be protesting this misogyny as opposed to the "patriarchy" in developed nations. However, and correct me if I'm wrong, there have been an estimated 71,000 (recorded) civilian deaths in the Afghan war, and ~3000 women killed total (who I estimate to be civilians due to the vast majority of every country's military is male - except for the DPRK). This makes me slightly unsure if the focus should be on women's rights or men's rights. Anyway, even if feminists were to only divert their attention to women in Afghanistan, i believe it would still be an improvement towards equality everywhere. Either way, it's hard to get accurate numbers with regard to the war, and I'm not certain that I have all the facts, which could change my opinion, but I would be interested to hear people's thoughts.
