Is the war on drugs a significant men's issue? If so, I think that can be our first major political victory if enough of us get behind it

No, it has nothing to do with men's rights. No more than any other issue anyway.

Calling it an MHRA issue is like calling abortion an MHRA issue. It's not. Now, you can argue that men should have certain rights concerning their own fate but in the end you can't tell women what to do with their bodies (or, apparently, anything in them) We can say we should have certain rights in that area precisely because abortion is ultimately left entirely in the hands of women. We can't argue that we can force women to have abortions against their wills or force them to carry babies to term (which are basically the arguments you're left making) Fortunately, no MRA I've ever met has any interest at all in entering into that aspect of the abortion "debate". In other words, we'd be trying to co-opt a movement just like feminists co-opted the abortion issue.

We can argue that men are the primary targets of anti-drug laws and that's true but that really wasn't the intention of said laws. If more women sold drugs then more women would be getting punished for selling them. Women wouldn't be getting the same punishment (because they never get equality in this area) if they got punishment at all but that's a different issue.

Frankly, I have no interest in drugs or anything to do with them. I honestly couldn't give a shit. Legalize them, don't legalize them, I don't care. Telling me I'm not allowed to consume them solely because I'm male ...now that would be a different matter altogether.

no the war on drugs is not a mens rights issue. it is a race issue and income class issue (as far as how the law is applied), and of course it is an issue of basic civil liberties as well as a financial issue considering the billions of tax payers dollars being wasted on an immoral campaign that has not even managed to reduce drug use anyway.

If you want a criminal justice related issue, I think that the current non-enforcement and attempts to gut the funding penalties for non-compliant States under the Prison Rape Elimination Act would be a better issue. Note that this issue has international support. While it is an issue that primarily affects men, since something like 90 percent or more of U.S. prisoners are men, it also applies to women's prisons. This presents a rather unique opportunity to get feminists on board for a joint lobbying effort, or at least to invite them to participate. Let's target that rape hysteria into a good outlet. Prison rape is torture. No civilized country should allow it to occur as frequently as it does in the U.S.

The problem is that "The War On Drugs" has already been clearly identified as a racial issue. There is a huge racial component to the war on drugs. If we where to try and make "The War On Drugs" a men's issue it would be seen as co-opting an issue of racial discrimination.

Glad that someone has raised this. I my view - 'yes'. A huge percentage of the men in prison (which number vastly more than women) are there as victims of the hopeless and ultimately futile attempt to prevent drug-taking through criminalisation, rather than legalisation and regulation.

Given the enormous cost to families and children of the current so-called 'War on Drugs' (a term which serves to enoble what is just a miserably misguided set of government policies), perhaps this is a men's rights issue that women can support too.

If more people just stopped using, buying, and selling drugs, the problem would solve itself. Get that junk out of your life, don't call for its legalization.
