It can be incredibly difficult to talk about your real life problems with other men, or anyone for that matter. People worry about disappointing those around them, about appearing shaky or "less of a man", or simply as someone who doesn't have a handle on their responsibilities.

You may be hesitant to talk openly about things going on in your life because you don't want to affect the image someone may have of you. It's a kind of disappointment that is fear mongering and makes life's stresses worse. You might be afraid to disappoint your father, your wife, your girlfriend, your friends who look up to you. I urge you to forget this bullshit and make sure you have people to talk to freely in your life.

I can believe this. In Ireland especially, where there is still the cliché left over from old times about Irish men being chauvinistic drunks who love a pub brawl.

I was floored. People seriously need to stop asking how can men change, and start asking how can we, as a society, do more to support people who are depressed, especially men.

This article brings up a great point that all too often goes unsaid: sometimes, we need to stop talking and just listen. Men have been beat down by society into a state of just keeping their heads down, only speaking until spoken too, and, when allowed to speak, have to filter everything for fear of being targeted for a various -ism or -ist. These guys just need someone to talk to, sometimes just to vent without fear of retribution.
