I just saw this video and had a lot of mixed feelings. I really like the gender-reversal model as a way of thinking about egalitarianism, and I think they did a good job for the most part, but I wonder if it sends the message the creators intended.

Letting Women Walk You

This one's just weird. Do women lack the free agency to disregard the advice of men to 'let us walk you'? Either it's good advice, in which case, what's the big deal, or it's unnecessary, in which case, why are they waiting?

Magazines

Yeah, because scantily clad, ripped men never appear on the cover of magazines targeted toward men. But when they do, it's a male power fantasy and totally not objectification.

TV/Movies

I thought this one was kind of interesting. Imagine how frustrated women would be if they were portrayed as overweight bumbling morons in the shows depicted. And again, we have the dichotomy of objectification/male power fantasy. You can't have it both ways.

The gender imbalance in the Avengers mock-up is something I sympathize with more. We need better female super heroes. Though I notice they...forgot(?) to leave a token male. Where's the Black Widower? Lazy...

Catcalling

Are...are they trying to say this doesn't happen? Because all of the arguments I've heard on that front say women catcalling men isn't a big deal because women aren't physically threatening to men, but...come on. It happens.

Comedy

So...complimenting somebody on their sense of humor and pointing out that it's a rare talent is now...sexist? The condescending tone the actors used is the only thing about this that even indicates what they were getting at with this one.

The Presidency

This one seems like the most relevant to what I assume their original point was. Also, good attention to detail, with the portraits progressing from paintings to black and white to progressively higher-quality color photos. Almost makes up for the lack of a Black Widower.

Conclusion

I suspect the message the creators were trying to send was "Men don't understand what it's like to be a woman", but what I think they actually ended up with was "there are negative stereotypes impacting both men and women" with a large side helping of "the creators of this clip see a lot of double standards where they don't exist".
