Rolling Stone farms out review of U-Va. rape story to Columbia Journalism School: Rolling Stone magazine has decided to enlist the Columbia Journalism School to audit its handling of a discredited Nov. 19 story about rape on the campus of the University of Virginia according to the mag's editor.

The only thing that matters is whether anything Jackie claimed to be true is, in fact, true. I mean anything at all. Enough focus on Rolling Stone, and the lousy job it did.

I'm highly skeptical of a journal outsourcing an investigation and then publishing its results. And I wonder whether the investigation (and RS) will be willing to severely criticize Sabrina Rubin Erdely if -- and this looks very likely -- she did an abysmal job. I get the impression that she screamed "fire" in a crowded theater when there was none, just to point out that things can burn.
