I am holding holding both groups to the same standard.

One group is accused of harassing women despite that the evidence shows otherwise, whereas the other group so frequently harasses the first that someone felt it completely reasonable to tweet that people should bring back bullying.

One group is accused of hating women because they do not want feminism in their games, whereas the other group unleashed a concerted flame war against the first that reached cable news.

To my knowledge, not a single person opposed to GamerGate has come out against the attacks on gamers or GamerGate supporters. In contrast, GamerGate supporters urge each other to report any threats made on Twitter.

There is a clear difference in behavior, where one side accuses the other of behaving badly while behaving badly themselves.

We're not comparing the behaviors in severity; that's a strawman of my position. We're talking about whether the behaviors of a few individuals characterize the group as a whole.

Only a few individuals within the anti-Gamergate community have doxxed anyone. Only a few individuals within the Gamergate community have sent anyone death or rape threats. Regardless of your perception of the comparative severity of the behaviors, neither behavior is characteristic of the group as a whole (unless you have some evidence that 50% or more of the folks identified with those communities are engaging in those behaviors, which I presume you do not). To argue otherwise is intellectually dishonest.

I am comparing the behaviors in severity, just as I am talking about whether the behavior of a few individuals characterizes the group as a whole. The majority of the GamerGate supporters write neutral comments. In contrast, a large part of the anti-gamer crowd writes harassing, dismissive, insulting comments directed at gamers.

We do not know that anyone from the GamerGate community sent death or rape threats. What we do know is that Brianna Wu and Anita Sarkeesian made those claims and their supporters took it at face value. Likewise, we do not know that the anti-gamer community that Wu and Sarkeesian belong to doxxed anyone. We do, however, know that many people from that group harass, attack, bully, and encourage violence against the gaming community. We can start with Gawker's Sam Biddle and work our way down.

So if your is question is whether we can judge people by the bad behavior of the lowest rung of their community, I would argue that we can based on how that community responds. The GamerGate supporters generally report any threats they see. In contrast, the anti-gamer crowd cannot stop attacking the gaming community.

Which one seems more likely to dox the other? The one attempting to have a civil disagreement or the one calling the other side a bunch of "manbabies"?
