Preface
In order for my question/situation to make sense I need to elaborate a bit. I'm trying to better myself, and want to make sure you all understand the details I see as necessary. My goal is to not have to go on asktrp anymore, so when I DO come here, I try to get as much info I can so that I can apply it myself in the future. Thank you!
I'm a junior in high school. I've never had a girlfriend, but the rest of my life is in order (education, fitness, spiritual, mental, etc). So I've been toying with the idea of making a move on a girl for some time. Of course, like every other guy, I get approach anxiety. But I've been working on that by talking to as many girls as possible, especially ones I don't know as well but don't have any desire to date. Also, I plan on going for an LTR, just for the record. But I'd like to keep it in balance, and do that with the help of you guys and the RP subs in general.
There's a girl in my class that I consider an acquaintance. We've had a few classes together and also participate in the same athletics (track & cross country). We've talked before, but never for extended periods of time. She's cute, healthy, and just generally fun to talk to. On Wednesday, we began working on a project together in class. As school is over next week, this is my chance. We pretty much clicked off instantly, talking, of course, of the project, but also getting personal every now and then. At one point, she tells me "my summer's going to be so boring, I'm just gonna watch Netflix blah blah blah". I didn't realize it in the moment, but I now realize this could have been something to capitalize on and get her number. I make sure to do everything I've learned. Strong eye contact, humor myself, and deep voice (my voice is quite deep to begin with). These things must have worked because when we were all waiting for the bell, I was chilling and talking to a different girl, when she approached and said she's tired (keep in mind we really just met, and she's already approaching me). Without acknowledging her statement, I asked what classes she was going to take next year. She told me and we talked as we left for lunch, then we both went our separate ways. This would have been the best chance to make a move, but I wasn't even thinking about it.
Thursday was not as climactic. We mainly just worked, but I was sure to keep those three things going (eye contact, etc). I was also sure not to play sheep, and take the role of leader in my group, especially when it came to telling her 'no' every now and then, lol.
Which brings us to Friday, the last day to work. I was sure I was going to get her digits as I walked into class, right? Wrong. Something happened and I went full MGTOW on her ass. Which I don't like, and I don't think she liked either. I already know it's going to seem childish, but as we began to work, she asked "how do you spell your name" for the poster. I have a semi-complex German last name, and so I began to spell it for her, and she began to write it as my first name, which is when I realized she didn't know my FIRST name either. I had assumed from hearing teachers, students, and coaches say my name over and over that she would know it. Apparently I was wrong. She claimed to be "bad with names", got all flustered and took the first chance she could to get away from my ass, due to her embarrassment, and started playing poker with some other people behind where we were working.
I'll be honest, I was a little pissed. But I don't think I should have been. I could have easily handled the situation better, or even made it comedic (I'm still working on my game). But that pretty much severed all interaction between us for today. I got back to work finishing up the project while she fucked around learning poker. As I was working, I overheard her, talking to the poker people, say she feels bad that she can't remember names. And briefly mentions to them how she didn't know my name. I don't know how to feel about this. After I was done with everything, she asked (making sure to use my first name) if there was any way she could help. To which I replied with a simple "no". She seemed to be upset with herself, but I didn't mind. As you may have guessed, I didn't execute the mission of getting her number very well.
So I'm really looking for advice.
- How could I have handled everything better?
- Does her being upset with herself say anything about how she views me?
- Should I keep trying? We present the project Monday and have the final day in that class on Tuesday.
- Please tell me what I did wrong! (and what to do instead)
- How to lose the 'this person is unworthy' attitude, that I feel I adopted after she didn't know my name.
Thank you for your time.
