Probably not the best place to post this, but I couldn't think of a better place.

Why is it that the older feminists seem to have the idea that THEIR OWN personal hangups about sexuality are everyone else's? Why do they seem to gloss over the choices that others make - like a narcissist: "if it's not a choice I'd make it's not a choice anyone would make"?

In this whole article, without using the word, she blames the patriarchy for the evil of surrogacy, without one giving credence to the idea that wanting your own genetic offspring is a powerful part of the urge to become a parent for a lot of people?

How hard is it to believe that a woman can be strong enough to carry someone else's genetic child in their womb - either altruistically or for profit - and then let go of it and not see it as their own child? Isn't that sort of patronising?

And then I read through the article's comments and honestly felt bad for my country. Hopefully the rational, reasonable people's comments were deleted, but if not, I feel so bad to be associated with these Australians who don't understand the first thing about why a person would want to get involved in surrogacy.

It's like they all think that one hundred per cent of people who don't have the chance to organise a surrogate go on to successfully adopt - which is the same idiot logic that sees anti-downloading advocates counting every single download as a lost purchase.

I read this with my jaw dropped.
