I went through this last year. One year ago exactly today actually. Lol.

Laws differ from state to state and country to country, but basically he needs not to talk to her at all for any reason, have any communication go through a lawyer. ANYTHING he says can be construed as "dissuading a witness" which in California is a felony strike count and worse than the actual dv charge in some cases. Screen shot any attempts she makes to contact him. Start gathering character witnesses, sorry to say it but they all need to be females, preferably ones who are willing to testify they have been In an intimate relationship with you, but platonic friends are good too. Especially platonic female friends who can testify to having seen you in a relationship with a girl before.

Find out who the lawyers with WINNING RECORDS IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CASES are in your area. They are expensive but they are your best bet. Also I am sorry to say this, but the way dv works now legally once accused there simply is not that much you can do, you will probably lose. Every one including my lawyer told me this, both of them actually suggested I just take a deal to avoid jail time but agreed it was worth fighting because if convicted I would probably lose my professional license (medical field).

I hate, hate HATE to say this, but unless your friend has some serious cash to drop on a lawyer it may be in his best interest to take a deal, because they will almost always bargain down like crazy on the punishment if you give them an easy conviction to fill their quotas, but if you fight them the prosecution makes it clear they will hit you as hard as they can with a punishment should they win, which they most likely will in virtually all cases. Having a ruined reputation and criminal record for dv is awful, but having that PLUS having to make it through a year or so of jail plus the myriad of fines and forced "donations to women's shelters" that deny men is far worse. Idk about the UK but in california jail is terrifying, even even in County murders and rapes rapes are common place and you can tell the second they throw you in the holding tank with dudes with gang tats on their neck that they absolutely do not give a fuck about you.

Best of luck to your friend, he's gonna need it. Big time.
