I'm concerned about the role of men in society. I would like to see a universal definition of manhood, and a recognition of the attainment of manhood; a rite of passage respected by others. I would like the weight of law to enforce respect for the symbology; i.e. no movies or music ridiculing it, akin to slander laws etc.
Attainment of manhood should be visible; an adornment of some kind, either a tattoo, a piercing, a piece of jewelry, or a patch on clothing.
I would like to see a change in vocabulary to accomodate this like "he is recognized" or "he is honored".
In order to attain this manhood requires a sponsor not unlike AA. It could be his father, or his caregiver, or someone else. He would need the sponsor's approval to attain the three definitions of manhood.
I would define manhood as being recognized as a provider, protector, and procreator. the definitions of each could be kind of like an agglomeration of ideas not unlike a wiki. Some examples:
Provider-financial, emotional, or even just a demonstrated caring attitude.
Protector-combat training, physical strength or dexterity, street smarts, knowledge, doctors training, self-esteem
Procreator-virility, lover, willingness and capability to adopt
I do not want to see recognized men portrayed as buffoons or torn down and deconstructed. Perhaps an honored man's ideas or his behaviors can be mocked but his manhood must never be in doubt, by weight of law.
It may seem to some people ridiculous but I think life would be so much better for everyone if such a plan were implemented. I can imagine a place for lost boys like the murderer Elliot Rodger to thrive and grow.
Silly? Do you have a better idea? Please, again, don't be toxic.
