I'd be willing to bet that Leah Hampton doesn't know what a quadratic equation is or what it's used for.

And the "knitting patterns = computer coding" really underlines how ignorant she is. I taught myself how to knit from books, before the internet, and years later took it up again. What was forever annoying is how patterns for each object had to be spelled out row by row, stitch by stitch. Rarely if ever a generalized template that you could modify to make it bigger (for example, socks; I have big feet and none of the sock patterns were big enough for me).

And I really have a teensy weensy doubt that her grandmother was solving this in her head. Maybe if C was 0 and A and B were 1 or 2.
