I did it. It went smoothly though I’m afraid I lost money in the home buyout. However with that said the difference might just have gone to a lawyer. Do your home work, be sure of what you want and don’t agree to anything until then. Remember you are major major life decisions under a time of duress.

Collaborative law works in low conflict divorces really well. The basic premise is transparency and making you invest in the process (i.e. pay legal fees) because if you "fight", then you have to hire new lawyers and lose the investment. This doesn't mean you're not allowed to have feelings or conflict and some brinksmanship towards going the litigation route can be effective leverage.

Generally, it's better but only works in a limited amount of circumstances.

I will let you know in 55 more days. Just started the process. I'm hopeful that we won't end up spending much more on lawyers, but with her, not certain.
