It's been 2 days... so far it's been very quiet.

13 yrs marriage, 1 kid (8yr old Boy), we recently had a fight after telling her that I have no more fights in me. And this last one was explosive, involved talking to families etc.

She says she's always walking on eggshells around me and I hate coming home to her. For the first half of our marriage, I feel like i carried it by really 'entertaining' our relationship and always being the one to break the ice, make her laugh etc. But the moment I don't.. it's pin drop silence.

Her family is a plethora of problems, her dad cheated on her mom. Brothers are divorced and abusive and for the 13 years it never stopped. I am so sick of it spilling over into our life.

The last straw was this last fight and the realization that we are not good for each other nor are we good role models for our son. It always hits home when we're in one car and it's awkward silence for hours.

We're good parents but a horrible couple ( 13 yrs never dated, only on occasions like bday or something because of the awkwardness) and the conversation was really very short I basically said "I don't know how we move forward from here ", and that was it.

We've tried couples counseling 3 times and it failed so that is off the table - sad part is we're the perfect couple from the outside looking in but behind closed doors it's so uncomfortable and I don't want silence when I am retired, i want a partner.

I suggested a very civil divorce with respect for each other and keeping our son's well-being front and center

Don't know what's gonna happen now but hoping to have a sounding board from strangers who have been through the same thing
