Hey guys, I've posted on here a couple of times before and the advice helped, so I thought I would try again.

Long story short my wife and I decided to call it quits back in May after a year of me trying everything under the sun to save our marriage. We have two young children so we wanted to do this as amicably as possible. She drew up the papers with a work lawyer and we went over them together to make sure everything was ok and then we would meet with a mediator to finalize everything. I was completely ok with this...except now it has been over two months and nothing has happened.

Both of our financial situations are very bad because she sucks at money and I was stupid and lazy and let her handle all of our money for our entire marriage, so we decided that we would live together and split all our bills 50/50 until we got on more stable ground financially. Two weeks ago she said that her boss got a big bonus and split it with her because they are hosts on a local radio station. So she spent a stupid amount of money on the kids and her self and probably didn't pay any of her bills, and wouldn't even tell me how much it was when I asked her how much money she got from him. Anyway, the reason why I am telling you this part is because I think she is still trying to take advantage of me financially by agreeing to split our bills 50/50. She is getting her wages garnished right now because of a student loan and we have a very high car payment due each month (the car is in her name btw).

A couple of weeks ago I told her how unhappy I was about our current living situation and long story short we agreed that she would move out and essentially pay me child support. (This was the moment I knew a mediator probably wouldn't work)

I'm doing my best to move on from her. Even though I would do anything to keep my family together she wants nothing to do with me on a relationship level anymore so I am done trying. I am supposed to meet with a lawyer tomorrow to discuss how I want to pursue this.

What do you guys think? Should I meet with this lawyer and start the divorce process myself? I also want to say that I am afraid that if I do this my stbx will turn on her bitch switch and turn this into some nasty trial that neither of us can afford or want just to spite me, she would probably even try to take the kids away from me because that's the kind of person she is deep down inside.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

P.S. I'm in Michigan, my kids are 7 and 2 (I doubt anything has been filed), meeting with lawyer tomorrow, currently living together, no restraining orders
