You don't need a lawyer to gain access to your home if your spouse changes the lock. You can use any reasonable means to gain access, including breaking a window or hiring a locksmith.

This is so true. My husband spent 5k for a lawyer. Their case wasn't very complex but his ex is a very difficult person. It included unlimited emailing with any questions or concerns at any time and all court proceedings. This assured he didn't get screwed over. Some people don't do it because they don't have the money but if you shop around you can get on a payment plan (these people let him do it) and most first consultations are free and give a lot of helpful information.

If he hadn't done this he would have been screwed over because his ex was asking for spousal support and a very high amount of child support. In the end she didn't get spousal support because she has always worked and makes a little more than he does and the child support was calculated by their incomes.

So yes people, please get a lawyer. There are options if you don't have money.
