I know this will be vague, but I need some ideas of what others are paying for alimony in NC. We have been married almost 20 years, separated for about 2 1/2 with 2 minor slchildern living with her.. She was a stay at home mom until we separated and I am active military, getting ready to retire the beginning of next year. I am trying to make the divorce as painless as possible for both of us. I understand she will be entitled to 50% of my pension. We have an agreement on child support at the moment. She is currently still living in the house I purchased about 3 years ago. It is financed solely in my name. Since I moved out, I have been paying the mortgage in lieu of post-separation support. We are undecided what to do with the house as she cannot afford to take over payments, and I don't really want to sell it.

My actual question, if we sell the house and I start paying alimony, what are some of you paying? If you don't mind me asking. She keeps asking me how much I am going to pay based on how much I value what she did as a stay at home mom. I don't know how to answer that question. The mortgage is currently around $2000 a month. When we initially separated and I tried to get a separation agreement done, she had said $1750 a month is what she wanted for alimony. Is that fair? Too much?

I know there may be a lot of information missing, and everyone's case is different. I just want to get some ideas to help me wrap my brain around this. Thanks in advance!
