I'm not a religious person. I'd like to believe there's an after life, but I also realize I don't remember anything before I was born, and I probably won't remember anything after I die.
I have 3 little kids (7,6,3), and a coparent determined to destroy my relationship with them. We've been separated for almost 3 years, and we're headed to trial in May.
Coparenting is difficult. My coparent is heavily dependant on Adderall, and they are always over stimulated, scheming, and gaslighting. We have a GAL, who I know is 'on the kids side', but he repeatedly sides with me at hearings. My coparent has, in the past, rationalized suicide as a way to 'start over', stating they believe in reincarnation and we have been churning through past lives since the beginning of time.
I don't feel that way.
They have a history of mental health issues, most of which didn't come to light until records were subpoenaed as part of our divorce. So this isn't really just an issue of us disagreeing about spiritual issues, it's that they have mental health issues, and their mom has mental health issues. Their mom openly talks to dead people, believes she's a psychic, and is drowning in q-anon beliefs. When I say 'talks to dead people', I mean she will sit you down and tell you she just had an in depth two way dialogue with your dead grandmother. I sense that there's an underlying psychiatric issue (perhaps Schizophrenia). I don't know. We've both submitted for psych evals. Due to the sheer amount of content I have, my coparent's evaluation has cost $13,000 and it's not even completed yet. My evaluation on the other hand, cost my coparent around $3,000. We had extensive marriage counseling prior to separation. This therapist says I'm fine, and says my coparent has some 'challenges'.
I understand there's many cultures that believe in reincarnation. But I don't, and while I'm going to encourage my children to explore spirituality and find their own path, I feel like my coparent is already attempting to indoctrinate them. My 6yo in particular is constantly telling me about his past lives already. I'm really frustrated. I'm concerned my kids are going to inherit my coparent's psychiatric issues, and I don't want to put my children in the middle of competing world views.
And to be honest, due to the 'over my dead body' attitude of my coparent on sharing legal custody (hence the trial), and their continuous casual mentions of suicide being no big deal and just a way to start with a clean slate, I'm worried they're prepping the children for a murder suicide situation where they tell the kids they need to 'start over' to be safe.
I'm probably over thinking it. But I needed to vent and get some feedback.
there doesn't seem to be anything here
