In my jurisdiction (and I suspect in most all jurisdictions), it is perfectly legal for dad to hand the judge a couple grand as a “campaign donation”. I asked my lawyer about this and not only is it legal, it is not to be questioned as if it were nefarious. In theory, I could have each member of my family donate a couple thousand and really get some things done. All legit. All perfectly legal.
