I’ve only been served a divorce complaint, no child support order. So litigation is now taking place and the attempt to settle is underway. Custody might be a contested issue, so along with that, child support amount is yet to be determined obviously. I have been paying towards medical bills, clothes, temporary schooling, etc. during separation, and I have been having my child 5 nights every other week. But who knows what the end result will be, sadly.

My question is, once child support is determined, whether it being through court process or settlement, do I owe child support arrears from the date I was served divorce papers??? Again, I was never served to pay a child support amount at this time. Just a complaint for absolute divorce.

I imagine I would just have to start paying my support AS SOON as it is determined. But I’m not familiar with how it works. Can they make me pay arrears dating back to when I was simply just served divorce complaint?
