People call out the double standards in the comments but lots of replies trying to justify the double standard.
Scott- “So wait if a woman said it .... She is cool with that but thinking a man said that and she gets upset....Double standards 🤣”
Lynda- “because if he had said what she thought he said, it stems from different places... Luckily for him, he just had a thick accent and she was patient with him because of that. Scott Sinclair I'm not defending it.” I'm staying as a woman. It is easier to to hear a woman say something to the effect of you have nice tits and see it as a simple compliment versus a man saying it and knowing that he is thinking of you in a sexual manner.” (How do you know a man didn’t mean it as a sincere compliment or that a woman didn’t mean it in a sexual manner? How very heteronormative and presumptuous that men are all lecherous creeps)
A woman called Ashley - “pretty much what I said. And the fact that men can't handle this concept. And jump straight to double standards. Says a lot.” (Even though it literally is double standards because it’s assuming that men always have an ulterior motive and never mean it sincerely; and that women always mean it sincerely and never sexually)
Lynda- “that fact that this "man" keeps reverting to trying to act like he can command a woman because she has shown she is smarter than him is WIIIILLLLDDDD. He is a dense and delicate flower (dandelion maybe?)”- (and there it is- upholding toxic gender roles and emasculating him by using “dense and delicate” as an insult and putting “man” in air quotes)
Ashley- “well he's just clearly showing the difference as well. It's all about demeaning women for them. Or sexualizing. They want to have the power. And they feel like they should be able to see these things. So they can't comprehend the fact. That we as women do these things to lift other women up. Are we really just like your hair. We think your boobs look great we think your butt looks great. It's not making it sexual. 🙄 Like it's a huge 🚩 that you can't even acknowledge the difference. Instead of if a woman can do it I should be able to too. Double standards boohoo men have it so rough.”- (again with the toxic gender roles, and the “boohoo”… and again how do you know that a men isn’t just doing it to lift a woman up? Why do you assume they’re always making it sexual? A woman could be potentially making it sexual too… so why do you assume they’re only doing it to lift other women up? It’s so heteronormative)
Ashley goes on to say “because girls will see it as a compliment. Whereas guys will say it to be creepy about it and sexualize anything about a girl. This would be called cat calling. If he was saying what she thought. But men can't handle that concept.” (Who is “men”? And how do you know they’re saying it to be creepy and sexualise? Why is it only “catcalling” in one direction when it’s male to female but when it’s female to female it’s not catcalling)
Scott calls her out- “so it's still cat calling when a woman does it 🤣🤣 the fact you choose to see them differently is more on you than the people who may say it 🤣” (and he’s spot on here- judge the behaviour, not the gender)
A lady called Alice replies to Scott- “double standards are common all the time, just usually not in a woman's favor 😆” (OK? Two wrongs don’t make a right)
And a woman called Sarah says “No. Most times women aren't trying to get into other women's pants. Men are.” (I hate that stereotype that men are always trying to get into women’s pants- it’s ridiculous to paint men as these sex hungry animals… and this also ignores lesbianism…). Scott replies “nah trust me they ain't, if it makes you feel better” (I agree with Scott there- why do we assume the worst about every man who may offer a compliment to a woman?)
A lady called Kay says “so what get over it” to Scott (would she say the same if it was a double standard in the other direction? Doubtful)
A lady called Lisa says this- “because when women say it, it's literally a compliment. When men say it, they're thinking of all the ways they could degrade and defile them.” (Why do we assume all these sadistic things about men? There are pervy men in the world, yes but some may genuinely be offering a compliment)
And this lady called Christy- “no because when a woman says it, she’s complementing her. When a man says it, he’s thinking of it in a whole perverted way. So it’s not double standard and stop trying to make it so.😂”… (I mean assuming men are always being perverted seems like a double standard to me….) and then she says to Scott “FFS dude stop crying. WOW” (and upholds the toxic gender norm that men can’t cry).
And this is all just one comment thread on that post.
