Thoughts?

I do think there might be some misogyny in the music industry, yes, but I don’t know what to make of these comments.

Slide 2- “female singers have to worry about their look, choreography and energy connected with the audience”… hmm. I do agree managers may pressure women to think about this more than they do men, but that’s not to say men don’t face this pressure either- male singers have choreography too, and need to connect with their audience. The look I kind of agree on, but there’d also be nothing to stop a woman from dressing casually like some of the men do, other than shitty management teams and societal norms.. there are also male singers who get dressed in outlandish outfits too. I do agree it’s more socially accepted for men to dress casually, but like I said, if Camila wants to dress more casual, there’s nothing stopping her? And I don’t like that “male singers look like they barely changed their pyjamas before they go on stage”- I wonder would she make the same comment to a female singer dressed casually? Somehow I doubt it. Then there’s that “women can give the eyes and get anything they want” and I think that’s an oversimplification. I think men and women both face pressures in different ways.

Slide 3- “She’s right- women deserve so much more”- I don’t understand what this means in relation to the context of Camila’s comment? I agree that there’s different pressures faced on women that there shouldn’t be, but I’m not sure how we can combat them. Somebody whining about men being in the comment section. And then that “don’t dress like a stripper if you want to be taken seriously” kinda made me laugh but it’s a little rude.

Slide 4- “I wonder how she came to that conclusion in her industry”- I do agree with that- biggest popstars in the world currently are primarily women. Clearly some appreciate us- “how could you measure who works harder”? I agree- male and female artists work just as hard. “Far more effort on stage with choreography outfits but let’s go for a bloke in a T-shirt singing on the spot”… there are male artists with choreography and outlandish outfits… there’d also be nothing wrong with a female artist in a T-shirt singing on the spot either- Tracy Chapman, probably one of the greatest artists in a generation, dressed very casual and just sang on the spot….
