Also, women spending more on pets doesn’t necessarily mean they’re taking better care for them. Sure, it could be money on vet visits, but it could also be money spent on useless shit like premium grooming, pet clothes, and gourmet meals the animal doesn’t need and may not even want.

Im going to need to see the sources of those alleged studies, anyone can say "studies say this", but if you're not providing actual studies, then its meaningless.

my partner and I have two cats together (heterosexual relationship, and they're a woman).

purely anecdotal evidence, and a sample size of one, and I don't know how common certain trends are in reality, or if it has anything to do with sex and gender socialization, but their observation holds for our individual couple.

but, if I were to assume it is true tho, there's a very significant difference that they might be overlooking tho. my partner is much more likely to spend significantly more on our current pets (cats), but I'm significantly more likely to take animals off the streets. our current cat eats lots of wet food now, and gets toys, and random special treats, but if I were to get that stuff, I feel guilty for where the money could be going - saving other cats. I don't care if our cats only eat dry food, or don't get many toys or a fancy bed. I didn't grow up fancy. I don't even need to be the one to care for them, while that matters a lot more to my partner. anything but having them on the streets, where they have to drink dirty water, and eat garbage. I'd rather save and home 3 cats and make sure they always have food and clean water and shelter, than invest the same amount so one cat can have toys and slightly nicer food. my heart breaks when I have to walk away from a stray, knowing it won't have anything to eat in a concrete hell. I've adopted and rehomed at least 10 cats, and my partner has done so with maybe 1 or 2 at most. they're a wonderful pet owner, but our priorities are very different.
