Depression is not a bad thing

Depression is a good thing.

Depression is the brains natural response to becoming overloaded with stress emotion unwanted thoughts and unhelpful behaviour.

It is your brain resetting itself to a very primitive state in order to recharge itself and return back to high functioning.

That is why most symptoms of depression involve an loss of function in the context and a heightened function in the amygdala and brain stem.

If you look at depressions symptoms they also match this shutting down of the brain to a more primitive state.

What makes depression difficult is not depression itself.

It is that life is not a good charger for your battery pack (the brain)

Life does not get easier when depressed and certainly does not stop shooting you in the testicles or ovaries.

Thus in many instances your brain can never get the proper recharge it needs and even when it is about to get it, it fears it won’t and goes into depression hyper drive, which is why suicide tends to be highest when you are getting out of depression it while in it.

This is were SSRI and other meds can help give your brain the extra boost if needs.

So the next time you are depressed don’t beat yourself up or think it’s a bad thing.

Be thankful your brain is giving you clear signs it’s time to rest and recharge.

I have been depressed over 20 times in my life and I’m 34.

Only once I learned the above did I truly conquer my depression.

Next time you are depressed thank your brain for working properly and then do what it is asking you to do (if you can or to the best of your ability) to get over depression.

Also pay attention to the things that can flip your depression switch.

Work too much was one for me.

Another is money issues.

Then put a healthy coping plan in place so when those triggers happen you have a more healthier way to cope.
