Have a good cry. Spend a whole day sobbing if you need to. You honestly feel detoxed after; it's like a cleanse for your system. Let all your ugly emotions out. You'll feel so much better and will have taken a huge step towards healing, because you won't be bottling/suppressing anything.

Block and delete his number. Unless you share assets or kids, this is non-negotiable.

Delete any photos of you together from your phone and any text conversations. Remove all evidence of him from your life, whether this is social media or anything in your home that reminds you of him (you might need to get rid of a few things too).

Write a list of all the bad stuff he did, no matter how small or insignificant. As the weeks go by, you'll find yourself adding to it and you'll be amazed at how long it gets. That's when you'll start to get angry at the small stuff you let slide.

I learnt this one from FDS - change your phone background. Make it your pet/a cute animal, anything that makes you smile. That way, whenever you look at your phone, you'll feel good, even when he hasn't messaged/called.

Treat yourself to some luxury bedsheets and enjoy not having to share them with anyone. Going to bed will feel like a ritual and you'll feel like a queen.

Obviously, invest in your health/appearance. A shopping trip with girlfriends never hurts, or treat yourself to an online shop if there are still COVID restrictions in your area.

Resist the urge to jump back onto the dating apps. Give yourself at least three months to enjoy being single. I'm approaching this point myself and I'm honestly so at peace and happy with my life, I'm actually thinking of waiting even longer before starting to date again.

Yes. I highly advocate for a minimum of 60 days no contact after any breakup unless you need to interact for a very legitimate reason (i.e. you have kids together or work in the same office).

I made the awful mistake of not blocking my NVM ex right away last year. We did have to stay in touch for about two months to figure out certain things post-breakup, but I should have blocked him after that. Instead, he'd hit me up every few weeks, get upset when I didn't reply how he wanted, hit the bottle, and then send me a seemingly endless number of drunk texts. I did end up blocking him, but I should have done it way earlier.

Block, delete from social media, and pretend he doesn't exist. Find an active hobby and focus on self improvement. After being coldly dumped via text by a big baby, I took up martial arts and weight lifting and lost 70 lbs since then and have never been in such amazing shape in my life. It's the ultimate fuck you to everyone who has wronged you to come out better than ever from disappointment and heartbreak.

You can allow yourself to grieve the breakupfor a bit, because even against all logic, you can grow attached to an LVM. However, don't grieve in public and don't neglect taking care of yourself in the process. Sometimes we need that catharsis to find closure.
