Broke up due to cultural differences

I’m going through it pretty hard so I apologize for the long story. I guess my story is pretty different than the others....... well here it goes:

My ex boyfriend is Afghani (born and raised in New Jersey) and comes from a conservative Muslim family. I was born in Germany (converted Muslim) and my mother is white (Romanian) and my father is black ( from North Carolina) and I came from a Christian family. Me and my ex were together for 5 years. He did tell me in the beginning of the relationship that our relationship would be very difficult and that there will be a low chance of me being introduced to his family as his future wife and that he would need their acceptance before even marrying me. I did understand this and was aware of the risk I was taking but I knew I was a good woman with a pure heart and a lot of love for God and also for their son so I hoped I had a chance to marry him when the time was right. He also did give me hope for our future even though it would be a difficult obstacle and even though it was a small chance, I held on to that hope for the life of me.

5 years down the road, I fell more and more in love and yet I have still continued to be a secret from his family and realized this wasn’t changing anytime soon. Come to find out him and his family are moving back to New Jersey (currently in Florida) and at first I accepted it but instead of leaving, I agreed to stay in a long term relationship(holding on to that hope) All of his family is in New Jersey and he has a huge family. He hasn’t moved yet but left to nj for New Years and has been gone for about a week. We haven’t talked much at all and it’s weird because we haven’t gone more than a day without at least texting or calling each other.

I finally reflected on my life, my future and my well being. I finally accepted the fact that he will move to Nj and I will no longer be with him. We have to go our separate ways and it hurts because he became such a huge part of my life. My partner, my best friend, my first my everything. I have prayed so much for us to be given the opportunity to take that step in our life together. I would’ve been so proud to be his wife but he had no intentions of me meeting his parents and even having a chance. Being that his parents are Afghani and also traditional, they would’ve proably expected him to marry an Afghan woman. In NJ, he will be more with his people as he lives in a small community with all his family and family friends so I’m sure he will be okay. Even though I’m converted, I try to be the best Muslim I can be, thank God, and would’ve approached his parents with so much respect, knowledge and love but i never got the chance which I feel like I at least deserve that.

I’m 26 and he’s 25. I know he needs to grow up be he has always been very respective of his parents (even though he lied to them about me) and he always conveyed his loyalty for them to me. It hurts me so bad because it’s not my fault that I wasn’t born in an Afghan, Muslim family but i have a good heart full of love and faith to God, thank God. Sometimes God has a different plan set for us and I will trust his guidance. I hope the best for him and his future inshaallah but I guess I just always wished I would’ve been his future, his wife and the mother of his children but it will never happen.

I know I will be okay after a while and this pain will heal but I figured I’d post about it and it kinda feels good to let it out. Thank you for reading my story.
