I’m completely in love with that man I’ve been seeing. Until last week I was picking to be open and to not “play games”, but his refusal to take our relationship a little more seriously, to tell me that he loves me unless I said it first, and his general cockiness about the fact that I -a woman above his league- is in love with him, made me reconsider my position and I started using some strategy.

At first it worked. I just withdrew a little and that made him text more. My texts were nice but infrequent, and it worked. We met Tuesday night for drinks and I looked a little better than usual. He called me “the most beautiful lady in this bar” more than once, and generally seemed content. Even stayed pretty late despite the fact that he had a huge day at work the next day (yesterday).

But then... Yesterday, I think for the first time since we met four months ago, I didn’t text him at all and he didn’t text me either. Some days I wouldn’t text but he would. But this time, nothing. No text. Nothing from him.

I know he had a big day at work yesterday and he’s having a very busy week, but it’s not like he never had those before.

I’m worried and I don’t know what to say or do about it. I was so confident prior to this, but it’s like he outsmarted me and has flipped the script on me. He was supposed to languish, and now I’m the one who’s starting to freak out. My friend told me to stick it out and not text him until he texts me, and even then to leave him on read, but I know myself well and I know I will get very heartbroken about this very soon if he doesn’t text.

We have plans for a date Saturday night, so I know one of us will have to contact the other at some point.

Please help! Kind words and advice welcome. Also I’m new here so I’m hoping I won’t get a bunch of “just talk to him!” comments.
