Yesss. My ex used to criticize me for working hard on my grades in undergrad so I can get into my dream graduate school program. He would say that it's useless and just a way to play into a system of academic bullshit.
But y'know what? I think he just didn't want me to be more educated than him, and he was insecure because I put in the work and I was proud of if 🤷‍♀️ especially because he knew if I ever earn my doctorate I would keep my own damn last name if I had married him, because I would have earned that title.
It's insecurity; that's all it is. Don't ever let anyone belittle your goals and dreams or hold you back, but especially not a partner who's supposed to respect, support, and uplift you

Ugh reminds me of the one and only guy I dated from OLD. First date he asks me “Why are you so CoNFiDeNt?”
He was a Tesla model S driving douchebag that couldn’t comprehend confidence not based on material possessions and wealth.
He turned out to be one of the most abusive people I’ve ever dated. Sexually, emotionally, mentally. Constantly ridiculed my physical imperfections to the point that I would cry every tome I saw him. Should have ditched him after the first date.

I feel like this is really relevant with the female empowerment movements in the last decade or so. It’s crazy how many men are emasculated by women just trying to hold their own and be independent

Yes men are still insecure that you have your own life, ambitions and fully functioning brain like them and you aren’t just some brainless bimbo who’s sole existence revolves around pandering to male’s needs like patriarchy led them to believe

I wonder if we'll ever be able to completely get rid of the concept of something being "emasculating." There's not even an equivalent of it for women. No activities/preferences/whatever are "efeminating." Women don't feel "efeminated" when a man is better at cooking than she is. Why then do men feel "emasculated" when a woman is better at baseball or something else equally trivial and stupid?
"This is emasculating" = "I identify so strongly with stereotypes of macho manhood that it deeply embarrasses me to do or feel anything outside of those stereotypes." I've said it before and I'll say it again: masculinity is a gott damn prison.

I needed this today. As I sat in my attorney's office while trying to establish temporary orders (I'm going thru a divorce), my attorney told my 15-year-old daughter to make sure to take care of her dad's ego and pride. That she needs to be respectful.
First -- my daughter is not responsible for the emotional responses of a grown man.
Second -- If a man needs a woman to protect his ego, then he is NO man. Simply be better.
Third -- I have this little brilliant kid who wants to be a medical examiner. She is focused on getting into medical school and the best undergrad program for her goals. She doesn't get into trouble. She's an incredibly kind and loving girl.
It is never our job to fix a man. This is likely why he's a soon to be ex. Thank goodness. I fired my attorney and got a new one today.
