Feeling insecure and anxious about a first date. What do I do?

Update: he's a LVM. Innuendos galore. Made off colour jokes. Generally uninteresting. He did pay for dinner though and took it well when I made it plain that I don't have casual sex.

All I do is remind myself how lucky this man is to be spending time with me. I suffer from pretty bad (though not social) anxiety and can get worked up myself but going into it with that mentality really helps. Also without expectation, all you are there to do is feel this guy out. HE is the one who should be impressing YOU and not vice versa. Either he proves himself worthy, you get a good feeling and have fun, or not and then on to the next one. That is all I focus on for first dates. Red flags, apart from the very obvious, are usually hidden this early on and feeling nervous to notice them isn't worth it for a first date in my opinion.

I noticed that since I started going on a lot of dates and meeting a lot of men that feeling of anxiety completely disappeared. Secondly, I definitely stopped getting overly excited about a guy and usually wait and see how other dates go. So I’d say more you date - less likely you are to get emotionally invested early on

There should be NO risque comments at this time. Also, you cannot determine whether he is a HVM at this point. You really know nothing about him, only what he has told you at this point which could be lies for all you know.

I honestly, I try to think about the date as little as possible till I am going to it. And even then I listen to a podcast or something on the way. Anything to keep your mind occupied.
