If it’s a man I’m in love with no gift is too big, if it’s a man I do not love all gifts come with “stings” so I dislike getting anything big. 🤷🏼‍♀️

It sounds like giving people things makes him feel happy, which is totally okay, but it sounds like they both failed to communicate. She wanted him to dial it back, he dialed it back too much. And then the car thing probably freaked her out.

They should both talk about their expectations of each other. If she feels uncomfortable with big ticket items, that's totally okay.

Maybe a better gift would have been a trip together somewhere, if he discussed it with her first he could surprise her with everything already booked and paid for. That may be more comfortable for her, as they would both get enjoyment out of the money spent instead of her just receiving these huge-ticket items.

This is a red flag for me, that I ignored. The guy I married was very generous with money to me and everyone. But money burned a hole in his pocket and saving was very difficult for him. We fought about this later bc he would always want to blow our savings on his hobbies. When we divorced we split the savings and he immediately blew all of his on a vintage car. You don’t want to know how much. Tens of thousands. He doesn’t even own a house. But this apparently is not a problem for every woman as he has just moved in with his new gf who owns her own house and loves his $30k 1989 car which is now being stored in her own garage.
