Heya everyone!
Abortion access has been heavily featured in the news those past few days. I took it harder than I expected- whilst I'm not American, my job means that I work with a lot of Americans and must always be very up to date on international news. A few colleagues and I had a conversation about the issue today and agreet that it has created a feeling of insecurity in our bodies. I'm not sleeping with anyone, so I am not necessarily concerned about pregnancy, but being lambasted with all those vile articles just makes me feel removed from my body, not in control of it. I'd love to explore some ideas on how we can handle these news psychologically here in this group.
In the spirit of healing, mulling over what these news might mean for women in America and worldwide (I, for one, will continue to refuse all PIV sex even with men I'm intimate with in other ways), and gathering energy for the upcoming fight, I was wondering what you ladies do to feel in control of your bodies. Do you have any rituals or routines that help you to really feel like this is yours?
I'll start: I exercise to feel centred in my body. It really helps to see your body as non-sexual.
I've also done something slightly mad and unexpected: I got an intimate piercing with this teensy-tiny pearl-encrusted gold bar! It's something totally against my typical style, no one knows about it, and you'd never expect it. Knowing that it's there, secret, and I put it there, just has helped me feel like this body is mine. I know it sounds mad, but it really has helped.
I have also signed up to a donation program for abortion acces for women in the US and offered US friends to purchase Plan B for them and ship it to them, should Plan B access ever be restriced.
What are you doing to heal and reclaim ownership?
