Hey everyone, I've been lurking for a while and finally built up the courage to post something here to share one of my experiences. I'm not sure about the flair, please correct me if it's not the right one. Also sorry about formating, I'm on my phone. English is not my native language so please excuse me for any mistakes.

So to start I'm 19, socially anxious and very shy, and had some pickme habits, I guess. Two years ago my best friend introduced me to this guy, and we became friends really quickly. He was smart, charming, we had the same hobbies and I soon became interested in him. At first I thought he was a great guy.

We had really interesting conversations together most of times, though he had that really annoying habit to cut me off and talk for a really long time without ever trying to get to know me. It was pretty rare at first and the cool conversations were the majority. I just ignored these times where he cut me off and would be so self centered because of pickme habits.

But as time went on, the more conversations we had the more time we spent together, the more I came to realize that not only was he getting self centered more often, but I was the only one initiating said time together. I'd always be the one texting him first, calling him, even travelling to see him (and even there we would only get on walking dates and we'd only do what he wants to do). I confronted him about it and he said that it was because he was an introvert.

That really pissed me off. I'm a huge introvert myself, I hate initiating conversations because I'm scared I'll bother people. Social anxiety as stated earlier. But still I initiated with him because I was interested and wanting to get to know him and eventually date him. He was always going on and on about how much he liked me and would want me to be his girlfriend, that I was his first love and telling me how beautiful and smart I was, but he was never making any effort to really get to know me. I'm so glad I always take my time before actually dating men.

The last straw was my 19th birthday. I didn't talk to him that day, waiting for him to send me a happy birthday text, or a call, even. But it never came. I was so angry at him for that. I completely stopped initiating anything with him and soon our friendship pretty much died. If I wasn't the one making the first step, we would never talk. Now we haven't been talking for 10 months.

What I'm trying to say is, don't get fooled by "I love you"s, compliments, or by what you think are HVM. If he's never initiating things and isn't making any effort to get to know you, just drop the man. He's not interested in you, or he's expecting you to do all the work while he just lays there without moving a finger. He's just not worth it.
